Treats are an important part of your dog’s life. Treats can be used to reinfornce traning, give your dog attention and help reinforce your bond with your pet. They are away of signaling routines throughout the day as well.
Treats are also a part of your dog’s nutrition and health. Feeding low quality treats that are made from “filler” ingredients and preservatives are the equivalent of you or I eating junk food like cake and brownies. Good quality natural ingredient treats are a great way to add to your pet’s nutrition not hinder it. Treats should make up no more than 10 to 15 % of their daily calorie intake.
Factors to look for when choosing treats:
- Natural ingredients- no artifical flavors, colors or presevatives
- Made in the USA or Canada

The ingredient list for the Life’s Abundance Turkey and Berry Chewies is as follows:
Turkey, liver, pumpkin, molasses, vegetable glycerin, cranberries, raspberries, blueberries, inulin ,liquid smoke, salt, mixed tocopherols.
I will admit they ingredients at first glance looked good. But I had no idea what inulin or mixed tocopherals were so I had to look them up to make sure they were still fitting with the natural ingredients I was looking for in a treat. Inulin is a prebiotic. Prebiotics help feed the natural flora in the digestive system to aid in digestion and digestive health. Tocopherols are a form of Vitamin E and act as a natural preservative. They sounded scary but after looking them up I was pleased with the ingredients and all fit the wholesome natural factor I wanted. The Treats are also made in the USA and are grain free.
Upon opening the package you could instantly smell the meaty smokey flavor. It smelled exactly like beef jerky you or I would eat. I was almost tempted to try a bite. Bandit was instantly intrigued by the smell. The treats themselves were a good size. About 1 inch by 1 inch squares. Each treat is only 8.5 calories. Which means my dogs cans have a few of them without over doing their calorie intake for the day. The treats were soft like beef jerky and easy to break into smaller pieces and easy for the dogs to chew. This is useful if you have a small pup, like Bandit who only weighs in at 7 pounds.
Both my dogs were eager to try these after smelling them and devoured them in seconds before looking to me for more. They Gave it 8 paws up and highly recommend them for your pups. If you want to try some for your own furry babies you can find them on the life’s abundance website http://www.lifesabundance.com/velvetpaws or by clicking HERE.
